Nerudova street (above, right) has enormous historical importance for the Czechs. The street is cobble-stoned and is lined with palaces and embassies. Many of the buildings have heraldic signs (below, right), which were originally used instead of street numbers.

The street is a very lively area full of traditional Czech pubs, cafés and restaurants.
If you walk for about five minutes down the hill you will get to Charles Bridge (below). This is the most famous bridge in the Czech Republic and one of the most famous bridges in the world. It was commissioned by Charles IV in 1357.

Prague Castle (below, left) was first built in the 9th century. The present building dates from the 16th century.

The Loreto Palace (below, right) is just a few minutes' walk from The Castle Steps. It was named after the town of Loreto in Italy, where the house of the Virgin Mary was apparently brought from Palestine by angels in the 13th century.
Strahov Monastery (left) is famous for its beautiful old library. The monastery is just up the road from The Castle Steps and can be seen out of the window of some of the rooms.

The Castle Steps Hotel is located right in the centre of Prague, just below the castle, and about six minutes' walk from Charles Bridge. It is within a few minutes' walk of all of the main historical sites of Prague including Charles Bridge, Prague Castle, Nerudova street, the Vltava River, the Loreto and Strahov Monastery. Old Town Square and the Jewish Quarter are just across the river.

We have three buildings in Nerudova Street and two a little farther up the hill in Uvoz: our reception area is at Nerudova 7. (If you don't have a map of Prague you can find one here.)

Our rooms in Uvoz have spectacular views over the park.

We are in the part of Prague called Mala Strana, which is the historical heart of the city. It is a quiet area of old cobbled streets and parks which runs down to the Vltava River (below, left). A boat trip on the river is a romantic way to see the city.
